DXtera and Bevel Join Forces to Advance Curriculum and Skills Data in Higher Education

New collaboration connects AI-assisted curriculum operations technology with open, interoperable infrastructure to improve online learning and make student learning more visible and portable

BOSTON, Mass., October 13, 2026 — A college transcript shows which courses a student completed and the grades they earned. But it rarely shows the specific skills represented in that coursework, where those skills were taught and assessed, or how that learning connects to employment.

Through its Connecting Talent to Opportunity Challenge, the U.S. Department of Education is supporting states as they develop “talent marketplaces” connecting learning, credentials, skills, and employment opportunities. These marketplaces depend on institutions mapping workforce needs to skills, and those skills to courses, assessments, and evidence of learning. Today, that work is a slow, manual spreadsheet exercise that is difficult to scale.

DXtera Institute and Bevel are partnering to explore a more scalable approach to connecting higher-ed and workforce systems. Bevel has joined DXtera’s collaborative member consortium to explore how Bevel’s AI workspace for higher education instructional design teams can work with DXtera’s open-source data infrastructure and member network to solve this problem.

Bevel connects to an institution’s learning management system and helps instructional design teams analyze and improve courses at scale. Teams can review courses against quality, accessibility, accreditation, workforce, or institutional frameworks and make course revisions while retaining control over every change.

For skills mapping, Bevel identifies the skills and competencies taught in a course and the assignments, assessments, and materials supporting each connection. Faculty and instructional designers then review and validate the results. Institutions can use frameworks such as O*NET or their own internal skills frameworks.

DXtera helps institutions connect and move education data across systems. Together, the organizations aim to make validated course and skills information easier to maintain, share, and use for advising, transfer, prior learning, digital credentials, Learning and Employment Records, and employment.

“Institutions are working hard to align their programs with evolving workforce needs, but that work depends on better information about what courses teach and assess,” said Dale Allen, PhD, President and Co-Founder of DXtera Institute. “Bevel offers a scalable way to help institutions create and validate that information. DXtera can help make it useful beyond a single system or institution through interoperability and shared data standards.”

Marshall University in West Virginia is testing an early version of this approach through a pilot with Bevel. The pilot produces a faculty-validated map of the skills represented in each course and the evidence supporting them. Marshall is exploring how that map could support a standards-based Learning and Employment Record that gives students a more useful and portable account of their education.

“States are building ambitious systems to connect education and employment, but institutions still need a practical way to create the underlying curriculum and skills data,” said Louis NeJame, Co-founder and CEO of Bevel. “Right now, that work is often a slow spreadsheet exercise that faculty are doing by hand. Bevel gives instructional design teams an AI workspace to do the work more efficiently while keeping faculty and academic experts in control. DXtera can help make the resulting information portable and useful across systems. Ultimately, this is about helping institutions better align their offerings with workforce needs and giving students a clearer way to show employers what they can do.”

The initial collaboration will include technical and product alignment, joint project and funding opportunities, work with shared institutional partners, and opportunities to share practical examples with DXtera’s member community. Both organizations will also work with institutions, states, and other education partners to identify practical applications for connected curriculum and skills data.
