Hierarchy Integration

Every Institution has multiple ways of describing its structure. For example, The School of Engineering within an Institution has a financial structure.  The financial structure usually contains Cost Centers or account groupings.  It also has an HR structure to identify departments and/or Labs within a School. HR departments and Financial Cost Centers do not have a one-to-one relationship.

We are confident that everyone knows what the “Engineering School” means and it’s universally understood. The underlying systems, however, aren’t all using the same object  to describe the  “Engineering School”. When someone asks, “What’s included in the Engineering School Headcount?” It turns out each of these numbers depends on what is included in the definition of the “Engineering School” for that function. If Finance classifies some new effort’s cost as included in “Engineering School”, but HR does not then this can lead to reporting anomalies.
