The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) successfully tested DXtera Institute’s Integration Framework to scale a homegrown predictive analytics product across a state higher education system. TBR has established a reputation as a national leader in leveraging technology to increase student success – most recently noted for developing a new predictive analytics tool known as “Trajectory Analytics.” Leaders at TBR struggled with the cumbersome integration of this tool with data from 19 colleges and universities across the state system, each with its own unique technology infrastructure.
This process was labor-intensive, inefficient and the data quickly became stale. The brief window of opportunity for college personnel to identify, track and intervene with at-risk students was gone by the time the data was returned to the hands of direct service personnel. In short, this status quo of manual data feeds was contrary to TBR’s mission of “Students First” – a technology barrier preventing staff from reaching at-risk students in time.
Being able to access, control and integrate our data in real-time is critical to fully realize and support the Tennessee Board of Regents mission. Whether using data to identify and intervene with academically ’at-risk‘ students at critical points, or to guide and support data-driven decisionmaking, commercial tools have not kept stride with the potential, or have been cost-prohibitive to integrate with existing student record systems. TBR and our institutions seek technology solutions to fully realize the power of data, and the DXtera Institute’s consortium of innovators will share technology solutions for common

barriers like these.
Through the DXteraSM framework, TBR was able to test the successful integration of Trajectory Analytics across differing enterprise systems at 20 institutions, both within and outside of the state, to respond to real-time, on-demand analysis. This proof of concept was able to better leverage TBR’s existing resources to fully unleash the power of data, resulting in better student services.
